Energy-Minded Homes at Waterleaf
Our goal at Waterleaf is to provide energy efficiency without increasing the cost of the home to the consumer. Take a look at what we’re doing to be able to call our homes “energy minded”, but if the attached list leaves you a little mind-boggled, just know we’ve gone to great lengths to make sure your new Shadow Creek home keeps you warm in the winter, cool in the summer and comfortable throughout the year…especially when it comes to paying your energy bill.
A heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) calculation analysis has been completed on each plan design to be constructed at Waterleaf by Shadow Creek Homes. These calculations are based on the ACCA Manual J method and the HVAC system is designed to meet both the sensible and latent loads determined for that plan type at this community.
Energy and performance testing will be completed on every home built at Waterleaf to include:
- Third party inspections will verify that the air sealing and alignment of air and thermal boundaries is in accordance with the Energy Star Thermal Bypass Checklist.
- The quality of the insulation installation will be inspected by a third party inspection firm prior to the drywall being installed on every home.
- Quality control verification inspections will be completed by third party inspectors on every home at Waterleaf to verify the ventilation and crawl space design criteria was met.
- A blower door test will be completed on every home at Waterleaf by a third party inspection firm prior to the delivery of the home to any customer to verify the duct and external air leakage design criteria is met or exceeded on every home at this community.
- Upgraded insulation packages will be installed on every home at Waterleaf to include up to R-38 insulation in the attic, up to R-15 insulation in the exterior walls and a full foam sealing package will be used on the home around all doors, windows and electrical outlets on exterior walls to insure the home meets or exceeds the criteria set forth in the HVAC calculation analysis discussed in #1 above.
- Every window installed at Waterleaf will be vinyl framed with double paned Low E glass.
- Insulated, fiberglass shelled front entry doors will be installed on every home at Waterleaf.
- Insulated overhead garage doors will be installed on every home at Waterleaf.
- All forced air heating units (the furnace) will be 90% efficient standard at Waterleaf.
- A digital setback thermostat will be included standard on every home at Waterleaf.
- E-star rated General Electric appliances will be installed, or in same cases offered as an option, by Shadow Creek Homes at Waterleaf.
- Compact florescent light bulbs will be installed in several locations in each home at Waterleaf to reduce the amount of electrical energy the home consumes.
